LDS Church To Hold Semi-Annual General Conference

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) will hold its semi-annual, worldwide General Conference from Saturday to Sunday.

Sessions are broadcast at 12 p.m. (ET) and 4 p.m. (ET) on Saturday and Sunday.  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform at select sessions.

General Conference will be broadcast via satellite from the 21,000-seat Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah to more than 30,000 LDS congregations across the globe.  Many travel from around the world to attend.  However, in the greater Chattanooga area, General Conference may be viewed on local EPB channel 450, Dish, Direct TV, and BYU TV.  Proceedings are also streamed live at LDS.org and on the Mormon Channel.

In the greater Chattanooga area, 12 local congregations of the LDS Church may also view the broadcast in their local chapels.  All are welcome to attend.

Saturday evening session at 8 p.m. (ET) is also held for men and young men who hold the priesthood.  The General Women’s session will be held on Saturday, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).

In addition to weekly worship services, LDS members gather twice a year – in April and October – to hear from the President of the LDS Church, his two counselors, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, of the Seventy, and other leaders. The organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is patterned after the same organization that has always existed on the earth when God calls a prophet to lead and teach his people (Amos 3:7).  President Thomas S. Monson is today’s prophet, and also leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Auxiliary leaders from Primary (children), Young Women, and Relief Society Women organizations will also speak.  General Church officers and auxiliary leaders speak about the scriptures, including the Holy Bible, and significant issues pertaining to our day.  About 16 million members of the LDS Church, as well as any and all who listen to General Conference proceedings, will hear messages that encourage individuals and families to follow Jesus Christ.  “Jesus Christ is the only name whereby salvation shall come” (Moses 6:52) (Acts 4:10-12), and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites all to come unto Christ.

General Conference is “interpreted into more than 80 languages” and “American Sign Language interpretation and closed captioning are also available.”  After the proceedings, talks are published on LDS.org.  The LDS Church has conducted General Conference since 1830.
