Cleveland State Lady Cougars Start Off Softball Season Strong

The Cleveland State Softball team started off their season at the Border Battle hosted by Georgia Highlands College. The Lady Cougars got their day started off with a win over East Georgia State with a final score of 4-3. Shiane Stockwell of the Lady Cougars got the win, posting 7 innings pitched with 8 strikeouts and only 2 earned runs. Bre Dunsmore had a nice day at the plate, recording a double and 2 RBI's. Courtney Mooneyham and Rachel Pierce each had an RBI as well.


In the second game, the Lady Cougars lost to Georgia Highlands by a score of 4-1. Bekah Copas was the pitcher in this one, taking the loss after only allowing 2 earned runs in 6 innings pitched. Rachel Pierce had the only RBI of the game for the Lady Cougars, scoring Sadie Coons. 

Cleveland State quickly rebounded in the second game, taking down Shelton State with a score of 4-3. It was Shiane Stockwell with the win again, this time pitching 7 innings with 6 strikeouts. On the offensive side, Hailey Galvan and Macy Bryant each had an RBI while Grayson Brown recorded 2 RBI's. The Lady Cougars also showed some proactive baserunning, with Hailey Galvan and Grayson Brown each snagging a stolen base. 

The Lady Cougar's next matchup will be on February 18th, at West Georgia Technical College at 1:00 PM.

Baylor, East Ridge Earn Soccer Tournament Wins

Baylor earned two wins on Saturday in the Baylor Soccer Tournament.   BAYLOR 5 HARDIN VALLEY 2  Eemeli Makela, Christian Stophel and Matheus Maia scored first half goals to lead Baylor to a 5-2 win over Hardin Valley.  John Musick and one assist in the first half and Keegan Weekley had two.    In the second half, Makela and Musick scored goals ... UTC Women Ninth At Hawkeye El Tigre Golf Invitational

-The Chattanooga Mocs finished ninth in the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational with a 905 total over 54 holes. The ladies beat host Iowa and Grand Canyon by one with New Mexico State 10 behind the Scenic City quintet. Cristina Perez earned her sixth career top 10 tying for ninth at 221. Young Boy Struck By Car On South Beech Street; Hit And Run Driver Sought

A young boy was hit by a car on South Beech Street on Saturday. He was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Police said the car left the scene. Officers were looking for two men in a red or orange Dodge Challenger. (click for more)
