Covenant Releases 2018 Women's Soccer Schedule

Monday, July 9, 2018
The 2018 edition of the Covenant women's soccer schedule was recently released and the Lady Scots will play 17 regular season matches, with six slated for Scotland Yard.

2018 will mark the 25th season of the program and head coach Mark Duble. The program began varsity competition in 1994 and has compiled a winning percentage of .609 with 12 total conference championships during that time.

Coming off an 11-7-1 season in 2017, the Lady Scots are set to begin 2018 with a road trip to Pennsylvania to face Messiah (Aug. 31) and Franklin & Marshall (Sept. 1). It will be the second-ever with Messiah, a program that finished last season ranked No. 5 in the nation, and the first since 2012. Covenant will also be facing Franklin & Marshall for a second time in the program's history.

Covenant continues its three-match road trip to start the year at Birmingham Southern on Sept. 7.

The 2018 home opener is set for Sept. 12 against region foe Sewanee at 7 p.m. at Scotland Yard. The annual Homecoming match will be on Sept. 15 against Transylvania at 4:30 p.m.

USA South play begins on Sept. 22 when Covenant travels to face Agnes Scott. The first USA South opponent to come to Lookout Mountain will be perennial conference contender Piedmont on Sept. 26 at 2:30 p.m. The Lady Scots advanced past an unbeaten Piedmont team in a penalty shootout in last year's USA South Tournament in Demorest, Ga.

The final homestand of the regular season will feature three USA South matches from Oct. 9-13. Covenant faces Berea on Oct. 9, Huntingdon on Oct. 12, and concludes the regular season home slate on Oct. 13 against LaGrange.

Other non-conference matches include trips to Berry (Sept. 18), Oglethorpe (Sept. 24), and Salem (Sept. 29) in the month of September. Even though Salem is a USA South member, that contest will not count toward league standings. Emory (Oct. 17) will be the lone non-conference match in October and will be played in Atlanta.

The USA South Tournament is set to begin on Oct. 24. The top six teams in each division qualify for the tournament, with seeds 3-4 hosting first round matches on Oct. 24. Divisional seeds 1-2 receive a first round bye and host quarterfinal round matches on Oct. 27. The highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and championship on Nov. 2-3.

NOTES:
  • The opponent Covenant has played the most on the schedule this year is Berry. Covenant won last year's meeting in overtime on Lookout Mountain, but Berry holds the series lead 12-4-2.
  • Covenant is undefeated all-time against Wesleyan (10-0). The teams will meet in the regular season finale on Oct. 17 in Macon, Ga.
  • Emory and Covenant were scheduled to play last season, but were cancelled due to weather. The teams have not played each other since 2014.
  • Matches against Brevard will count for USA South standings this year. However, Brevard is not eligible to compete in the USA South Tournament.
