Adam Wilson becomes the new director of the Parks and Recreation Department for the city of East Ridge effective on Monday. He takes the position that was held by Stump Martin, who died recently.

Mr. Wilson brings nearly 14 years of experience as a professional administrator with Catoosa County Parks and Recreation, officials said.

Growing up, Mr. Wilson always enjoyed playing sports – so much so that he decided he would seek a teaching degree that would allow him to coach and instruct others playing sports.  Yet a conversation with an enrollment counselor at the University of West Georgia set him on the path to secure a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation.

“I had no idea that Recreation was a degree,” said Mr. Wilson.  He followed his dream and, after his graduation in 2004, he went on to become a Certified Park and Recreation Professional accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association.

Officials said, "Mr. Wilson brings experience in organizing youth and adult sports programs, developing partnerships with local businesses to cross-promote tournaments, and assisting with facility renovations and upgrades.  He has long admired Camp Jordan with its proximity to I-75 and believes there are endless opportunities to showcase the unique property.

"With his ultimate goal of offering the best programs at the best possible facilities, Mr. Wilson wants to drive out-of-town visitors to the City of East Ridge through sports tourism. He believes East Ridge has the perfect location - right off I-75, Exit 1, at Camp Jordan - to be the premier facility in the region."

In addition to promoting traditional athletics, Mr. Wilson stated, “I can envision the city of East Ridge offering alternative means of recreation such as a farmer’s market, movies in the park, a concert series and even guided canoe/kayak rides.  I believe in offering programs and after school opportunities for children; thus, I am committed to finding ways to offer camps and extra-curricular opportunities within the city.”

Mr. Wilson plans to enlist the help of the community to conceivably organize a city wide festival.  He also has ideas on developing more activities for seniors.

Officials said, "Adam Wilson wants to use his skills to make an impact and wants the citizens to be proud of all of the activities East Ridge will soon have to offer."

Why I'm Voting Republican And So Should You

For much of my life, the commitment to the Democratic Party has puzzled me. I was raised to analyze both sides of issues and to make an intelligent decision based upon that information. The values of self-reliance, hard work, and individual liberty that I grew up with were the same American values that have made this country exceptional. As I have grown older, I have witnessed ... Roy Exum: UT’s Genius Stroke

If all goes as (very carefully) planned, the most dynamic president to be hired at the University of Tennessee since the legendary Andy Holt retired in 1970, will be ushered into office today by the university’s board of trustees. The selection of Randy Boyd to take over his ala mater is a genius stroke and certainly seems to solidify two of life’s greatest truths. The first ... (click for more)
